The HBO series Bored to Death was canceled after its third season. This news disappointed many, as fans of the series greatly anticipated the fourth season that was in the making. The main character, Jonathan Ames, was based off of and named after the creator of the series. The role was played by actor Jason Schwartzman. With the addition of Zach Galifianakis (Ray) and Ted Danson (George) playing Ames’s friends, the show seemed as if it could be a hit. However, the unsuccessful third season sealed the fate of the series, and HBO decided to cancel it on December 20, 2011. The show itself was based off of a story written by Ames that was published in the magazine McSweeney’s.
In the series, Ames is a writer in Brooklyn, New York who is struggling to write a second novel. However, his life gets a bit more interesting when it comes tohis side job; for Jonathan Ames also happens to be an unlicensed private detective who advertizes his service on Craigslist. When people start to respond to his ad, he encouters a whirlwind of adventures. In the process, Ames discovers that he may not be the best private detective. The show was highly respected for using the real Brooklyn as the set rather than shooting somewhere in Hollywood. Despite the termination of the seried, there may still be hope for die-hard fans, as rumors of a possible “Bored to Death” movie aseem to be floating around.
The show’s second season brought a great amount of sucess, and all seemed to be going well; yet when the third season rolled around, the number of viewers decreased and never showed any signs of improvment. Although the series may have been short lived, it was full of laughs; for those who enjoyed the show will surely never forget it. Many predict that the show will make an appereance in some other shape or form, which varies from a movie to a comic. Fortunately for its fans, Bored to Death may be revitalized in the near future, proving that the series could potentially live on.
