College is a time for studying and getting good grades, but for the students at Barden University it is about showing off your skills and standing out. At this college, singing is the “cool” thing to do; everyone wants to be able to join the Bellas (a female singing group)and be crowned champions of the singing competition. But it is not that simple. There is also another male singing group competing for the same title. Pitch perfect is basically a knockoff of the famous show “Glee” on Fox. Even though Pitch Perfect has some cheesy parts, the director Jason Moore has made this film perfectly awesome.
In this comedy a female singing group called The Bellas competes against their male rivals The Treble Makers. After losing many valuable members of their squad from last year, the leaders of the Bellas, Aubrey(Anna Camp) and Chloe(Brittany Snow), recruit new members in hope to freshen up their group and beat their competitors. Last year at the competition the Bellas went very far and almost won the whole thing. However when they got to the finals they blew it and Aubrey threw up on stage! Aubrey and Chloe know that they need someone great to spice up their group so they can win the competition. After searching for that special person, Aubrey and Chloe find Becca, a wannabe music producer who is in college just because of the pressure from her father. Among the new singers they find is the hilarious Fat Amy who is not your typical college girl. She is very big and loud which is the opposite of Lily, a timid girl who speaks more softly than a whisper. Then there is Cynthia Rose, a black girl who is very manly and butch. With the new additions to the Bellas, the girls practice 24/7. However it takes some time before the girls are even close to being able to sing in harmony together. Along the way Becca starts to hang out with Jesse, a member of The Treble Makers. Their friendship soon blossoms into romance as the singing competition between the two groups draws near.
The different types of actors in the cast work perfectly together. There are some parts in the movie when one will fall out of their seat laughing. The choreography and singing were very good and it added flavor to the film. Some parts of the movie were predictable and the Bellas should have done more activities together as a group. Also Fat Amy should have been shown more in the movie because she was very funny and pretty much carried the movie. However the setting of the movie was at an actual college so it made the story come to life and seem very real. Pitch Perfect is one of the best movies you will see. Overall Pitch Perfect is a great movie and it is well worth your time.
