Country star Luke Bryan recently released his fifth album “Spring Break” on March 5, 2013. Over the past four years, Luke Bryan has released four albums—all of which revolving around the same idea: spring break. Luke Bryan has continuously recycled this identical idea — over and over and over and over again. His fans might enjoy his new upbeat album, but Luke Bryan needs to take a step back and envision a new idea that will be substantially more original. Does the world really need 60-70 songs by the same artists about spring break? Is there really that much to say? Ironically, the world does value his opinion of spring break, for his music is more popular than ever, and his album landed Luke Bryan his first ever spot as number one on the all-genre category on the Billboard 200.
Luke Bryan decided to produce his first “Spring Break” album called “Spring Break With All My Friends” five years ago, and it was an immediate hit. Due to all of the success of this album, he produced a second spring break-related album named “Spring Break 2” and his fans loved it just as much as the first. However, when he decided to recycle the same exact concept for his “Spring Break 3” and “Spring Break 4….Suntan City” albums, this repeated concept became a paralyzing routine for him. A talented entertainer with high potential, Bryan has intentional pigeonholed his music and has branded himself as the most predictable artist in music right now.
Even though Luke Bryan lacks originality, he still manages to create songs that make listeners want to listen to his songs over and over again. “Spring Break 5″ consists of fourteen songs and despite his overuse of this concept, Luke Bryan continues to attract a youthful fan base. One of the songs in this album that demonstrates that he still has the ability to unfold well-liked songs is known as “Suntan City.” This song kicks off this album and it is an effective album-starter as it perfectly describes a spring-breakers “spending [their] days catchin’ these rays.” The instruments that Luke Bryan incorporated into this piece fit perfectly. There is a fiddle playing in the background of this song that adds to the country aspect of this song, but at the same time, the guitar power chords give the song more of a pop vibe.
Another song that has reached success in this album is known as “Buzzkill.” This song proves that Luke Bryan was trying to be adventurous with trying to have his songs consist of a variety, different from the same upbeat tone. However, there should not just be a few songs that are more peculiar than the rest; there should a variety. Regardless of there not being too much distinction in this album, “Buzzkill” has automatically been a popular hit. He does not hold back anything in this song and delivers guitar chords that gave the song more of a rock feel, which makes “Buzzkill” one of the most captivating songs on this album.
While this album has a few highlights, it is time for Luke Bryan to come out with a new album about something else — maybe “Winter Vacation!” or “Memorial Day Weekend!” or at least a Christmas album. Something — anything! — other than “Spring break 6.” Please.
