A lot of hard work and effort goes into the filming of a television show or a movie. The actors play a critical role in making these forms of entertainment better. Now, just imagine losing an actor in the middle of filming. For instance, in the film The Crow, the main actor Brandon Lee died in the middle of filming due to accidental gunshot wounds. It is very hard to find a new actor in the middle of filming a movie. The producers have to go through the process of selecting someone who looks similar to the previous actor, and they have to do this fast if they don’t like the idea of canceling the filming all together. Now — instead of replacing an actor in a fictitious movie, the producers have to replace the centerpiece of a reality television show — a show that is defined for the inherent recklessness and strange charm of an endearing southern gentleman named Shain Gandee. Sadly, this is exactly what happened on the new MTV show Buckwild.
The main character of Buckwild, Shain Gandee was tragically lost on April 1. That night, Gandee took his truck out to the woods for a drive with his Uncle. The next morning the two men were found dead inside the truck due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Immediately after Gandee’s death, the Buckwild producers announced that they would not continue onto the next season of Buckwild. “We love the cast and the show and this was not an easy decision, but given Shain’s tragic passing and essential presence on the show, we felt it was not appropriate to continue without him,” said MTV(http://www.azcentral.com/thingstodo/celebrities/free/20130410mtv-cancels-buckwild-shain-gandee-death.html).
Buckwild, Shain Gandee’s claim to fame, is essentially the country version of Jersey Shore. Gandee added a good amount of country twang to season one of the show, being the typical funny guy who loved to have a good time. The cast had many fun experiences together including going “mudding,” one of the main activities in the show. It involves taking a truck out deep in the woods and driving fast through giant mudholes. The show also revolved around many quick romances between the cast of the show, the main one involving Gandee and his interest Kara. Throughout the whole season, Shain tried numerous things to impress Kara, including doing crazy stunts on a four wheeler and taking her to a lake. In the end, Shain captured Kara’s interest by making a private firework show for her. Shain’ s dream of impressing Kara came true at the end of Buckwild, right before his death.
Buckwild encapsulated Gandee’s personality. Viewers of the MTV show saw him doing what he enjoyed most – hunting, hanging out with friends, and driving through the woods in his truck. He had a fun personality and was nice to everyone he met. Gandee showed the other actors what it is like to be true country.
Gandee’s death shocked the nation, along with his friends and family. The members of the cast are devastated that their beloved friend is now dead. Buckwild proved to be a major hit because it was different than many of the other shows on MTV. However, Gandee’s tragic death ended the show forever,ending with a downfall that will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Shain Gandee, you will be missed.
