With football season wrapped up, senior Alex Caskie can now take his sights off the gridiron and focus on a different sport, one he will also be playing in college. On November 11, Caskie signed his National Letter of Intent to play Division 2 lacrosse at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire. After he visited the campus and met with the coaches this past August, the Franklin Pierce Ravens offered him a scholarship.
Caskie first started playing lacrosse when he was in third grade. After his first season though, he realized he preferred baseball. That was until eighth grade, when he made the final decision to put his bat down and pick up a lacrosse stick once more. Since his lacrosse restart in middle school, Caskie has been a standout player on the field as a defenseman.
“I try to play fast and smart to create enough pressure on the attackmen to create a turnover right away,” said Caskie. This fast paced and aggressive style of defense is what has allowed him to have success playing varsity lacrosse since his sophomore year.
Ultimately, Alex decided that Franklin Pierce was the best place for him because of a number of factors. “I really liked the campus and I felt the academics combined with the lacrosse team’s potential to win a national championship made the school a good fit,” said Caskie.
His fellow teammates and coaches elected Caskie as a captain for this spring because of his leadership on and off the field.
“I’m honored to be a captain and I hope that I’ll be able to help lead our team towards a successful season,” said Caskie.
Along with teammate Dan Ryan (First team All Bay-State) commanding the defense, the Rebels lacrosse team looks to be a formidable opponent for any opposing team’s offense this year. In regards to his upcoming and final season at Walpole, Caskie hopes to have not only have a successful regular season but to excel in the postseason as well.
“I want to go as deep as we can in the playoffs and make a run at the title,” said Caskie.
