In addition to Walpole High School’s staff, Raelin Asselin is welcomed as the new transition coach. Asseline received her degree from Dean College where she studied psychology and went on to receive her masters degree. Not only is Asselin well educated in her field but she has also had experience specifically studying clinical mental health counseling.
“I would like to and hope to create a positive impact on students in their organization and study skills as well as help them advocate for their needs inside the classroom,” Asselin said.
Asselin came to WHS in search of a new opportunity and found herself in the role of the transition coach. Due to her own struggles in school growing up, she is able to understand those who struggle and uses her passion for helping others to connect with her students.
“I believe my past experiences have helped me in my current position because it has provided me with the tools and resources that I can use with students so I can help guide them,” Asselin said.
Asselin creates a supportive classroom where she is able to guide her students and offer them help where they need it. By allowing students to have a place where they can go to catch up on missed work and cultivate a less stressful transition back to school after absences, she establishes a comforting atmosphere where all students are welcome.
“Ms. Asselin creates a nurturing environment by being a motivational figure,” transition room student said.
Asselin encourages others to follow their dreams of helping others if they are aspiring teachers and continue to look to others when support is needed
“Advice that I would give to someone who aspires to work in a school would be to never be afraid to reach out for help, feedback and or insight,” Asselin said.
