“Jackass 3D” generates reactions of the extreme kind, ranging from hilariously amazing to horribly dumb. But, what one might think of it depends upon the category of audience one falls into. If one likes his/her cinema meaningful and intelligent or even emotional, then steer clear of this riot. On the other hand, if one doesn’t really mind a generous dose of slapstick, unrelated chain of funny antics as one’s cinema, one is in for a treat.
Although most of the critics have slammed the movie, one cannot help but feel that the director has successfully channeled the true nature of MTV’s original hit television show. As for the story, there really is no plot out there that needs to be understood. It pretty much is a crazy assortment of hilarious situations, along the lines of the previous two installments. But, a viewer doesn’t need to fake the pains to find about the previous movies because even if one has never seen any of the “Jackass” series, one would still be able to grasp the dangerously mad events with comfort.
As for the performances, Johnny Knoxville and gang has been great at what is expected out of them. They have done just what they were supposed to. Nothing more, nothing less. Critics won’t see much talent in these actors in terms of proper acting benchmark, yet these guys are hilarious and blow life into their mad character sketches and they do it pretty well.
On the flip side, it is true the movie has nothing new to offer at all. There is no script to speak of. To most people out there it will resemble a mish-mash of loud and terrible cacophony in the name of comedy. The comic elements used are also very slapstick, although revealing much would take the punch out of the gags. But the more mature audience here would not really like their humor on such a base level.
Nevertheless, all the critical pros and cons aside, “Jackass 3D” would still be recommended as a fairly reasonable way of spending the weekend. Because no matter how much one harps about the fact that one wants cinema to be thought-provoking and heart-tugging, in reality no one really minds a mindless comic caper that succeeds in making us smile half a dozen times after a rough week.
