Making the transition from a Norwood Mustang into a Walpole Rebel, Mr. Sean Powers kicks off his eighteenth year in education and his first year at Walpole High School. A former math teacher, Powers is now serving in the main office as Assistant Principal here at WHS, following the departure of the former Assistant Principal, Mr. Bryan Hand.

“Mr. Powers appears to be settling into his new position very nicely. He is spending quality time with the staff and with students. I have been very impressed with him in the short time he has been here,” said Principal Imbusch.

Prior to teaching at Walpole High School, Powers taught math in Virginia for four years, and math at Boston Public for four years. In addition, he spent ten years in Norwood, where he taught math for four, served as Dean of Students for an additional four, and finished the last two years of his mustang-career as the assistant principal.

With a new position comes new duties, and Mr. Powers has been busy completing these duties so far this year.

“My goal is to make sure that the kids can get everything possible in order to get the most out of their time [at Walpole],” said Powers.

As assistant principal, he spends a lot of time helping students do whatever it is they need to do in order to get the most out of their high school career. In addition, he also works with teachers, observing them, and providing help in order to ensure that their students receive everything the need to be successful.

Powers is already implementing new programs to help better Walpole High School: he has started an SAT math prep program to help improve students’ SAT scores.

“I have done a lot of SAT prep in the past, so I would like to bring some of that here to Walpole,” said Powers.

However, Powers’ main objective for this year is to get to know as much as possible about Walpole High and its community. “My goal is to learn everything I can, to meet as many people as I can, and to help in any way that I can,” said Powers.

Although he spent ten years as Walpole’s rival, Powers is already enjoying his time here as a Rebel. When asked his favorite thing about Walpole, Powers responded “the really friendly environment.” The self-described “lowkey” teacher is excited to spend the next step of his career at Walpole High School.

“I look forward to being here in Walpole for a while,” said Powers.
