Meet the Captains: Boys Basketball

What sport are you a captain of? I am captain of the basketball team.

When did you start playing the sport? I started basketball in seventh grade.

Do you want to continue this sport in college? No, I do not plan on playing in college. 

Who was a prominent coach in your sports career? Why? My dad was a prominent coach, he helped me a lot as a player and helped me develop my skills.

What other activities/sports are you involved in? I also play football.

How do you feel going into this season? I think we are in for a good season, we have the team for one of the best seasons that Walpole basketball has had in a long time. 

What are some goals set for the team this coming season? How do you plan to achieve them? As a team we want to win the Bay State league and make a very deep playoff run, we need to work hard and stay focused throughout the long season.

Who are some big opponents/rivals? Why? Natick, and Needham are some of our big rivals, they are two of the best teams we will play all year and getting wins over those teams would be great for our team.

Do you want to continue this sport in college? I am not sure if I would be interested in playing in college.

Who was a prominent coach in your sports career? Why? My dad was a prominent coach because he got me into basketball and pushed me to be the player I am today.

What other activities/sports are you involved in? I am a part of the student council and I plan on playing baseball this year.

How do you feel going into this season? I feel very confident. We have much more talent and height than previous years which will lead us to a successful season.

What are some goals set for the team this coming season? How do you plan to achieve them? A big goal for us is to go far into the playoffs. We will need to play together as a team and prepare for opponents at practice. I feel confident that with this group of guys we can make it happen.

Who are some big opponents/rivals? Why? Needham and Wellesley are two of our rivals. Both teams are one of the better teams in the Bay State League and our games always get chippy when playing them.

Who was a prominent coach in your sports career? Why? My dad was a prominent coach in my basketball career. He introduced me to the game and taught me how to play. He loved basketball and passed that on to me.

What other activities/sports are you involved in? I just play basketball.

How do you feel going into this season? I feel confident in the team, I think we have great players and we have a new coach so I am looking forward to it.

What are some goals set for the team this coming season? How do you plan to achieve them? We want to make the playoffs and hopefully win a state championship. We plan to achieve these goals by playing together and playing good defense.

Who are some big opponents/rivals? Why? Norwood is one of our biggest competitors because Walpole and Norwood have always had a rivalry and that is always a game we want to win a little more.
