Meet the Captains: Girls Hockey
Jess Tosone
What sport are you a captain of? I am captain of the girls ice hockey team.
When did you start playing the sport? I started skating at three with the help of my siblings and then when I was five I joined my first hockey team.
Do you want to continue this sport in college? No, I do not plan on playing in college.
Who was a prominent coach in your sports career? Why? Coach Joe Verderber was prominent because he has been my coach all throughout high school and he has shaped me into a stronger player by helping me to develop more skills and pushing me to do better.
What other activities/sports are you involved in? I also play field hockey and lacrosse.
How do you feel going into this season? I am looking forward to this season because we are bringing in a strong group of freshmen that will help contribute to the team a lot. We also do not have a lot of players this year which is good because now everyone is able to get on the ice and see playing time which leaves a lot of room for all of us to grow and become better players.
What are some goals set for the team this coming season? How do you plan to achieve them? Our main goal is to qualify for playoffs, and continue to build a strong team bond. Our practices will get us prepared for that as we work hard and grow together. As captains we will help our team to be positive and motivated so that will translate on the ice during our games.
Who are some big opponents/rivals? Why? Needham and Wellesley because they are aggressive teams that have a lot of skilled players. It is always a tough competition whenever we play each other.
