National Honor Society Host Mini Golf Fundrasier
During the month of February, the National Honor Society held a fundraiser at Monster Mini Golf in Norwood. Family, friends, and students could play a round of golf and the proceeds went to the animal shelter in Medfield, MA. Overall, this fundraiser was a huge success for the shelter and for National Honor Society students.
Students were able to hang out with, while at the same time they could be supporting a local community organization. Students enjoyed how the fundraiser lasted a month so they could have plenty of time to go. On the first day alone twenty-five people went to support the cause of the animal shelter.
Some background on the Medfield Animal shelter is that they have been owned and operated since 2004 on Old Bridge Street. They are known to be a very successful shelter. In 2020 they found homes for five hundred eleven pets locally. They have sixty-five active volunteers and they care for all different types of animals. They can supply for animals such as cats, dogs, guinea pigs, birds, hamsters, and other critters. They have a set mission in place for all the animals they care for.
“We rescue lost or abandoned animals and provide for their comfort and safety until they are reunited with their owners or placed in new homes. They are a no-kill shelter, which means no pet will ever be euthanized because it has run out of time to find a home.” The owners of Medfield Animal Shelter said.
With the help of this fundraiser, the money being raised will go directly to the shelter. It can be used to help with many different aspects of the shelter. Whether that is to care for animals getting them new supplies or if it is going directly to resources to save hurt animals.
“The mini-golf fundraiser was really fun! It was a great time to engage with some of the existing National Honor Society members and get to know the new candidates better.” Charlie Lyons said.
Students from Walpole High School who went to the fundraiser describe their experience as something enjoyable and something local that they would do again.
“The experience was something different and the environment was very fun.” Annie Cameron said.
Even though whoever went to the fundraiser had to buy tickets online beforehand, they thought it was still worth it.
“I had a lot of fun playing mini-golf for a charity. It was a great way to hang out with friends. My friends and I played in the dark and the place was all lit up with glow-in-the-dark neon decorations. Music was playing and people were dancing and it was overall a great time.” Meghan Sullivan said.
Even though the exact number has not come out for how much money they raised, the National Honor Society students are hoping and expecting it to be a good amount of money raised.
The National Honor Society has many fundraisers and different events that take place each year. They are all about giving back to the community and helping people around our town and society. This was one of the big events of the month that had a great amount of success. They are always coming up with new ideas for the school and community. This is just one example of all the hard work they have done!
