Carly Schlitter
What sport are you a captain of? (Please specify Girls or Boys)
I am the captain of the varsity girls volleyball team.
What other activities are you involved in at school? (clubs/sports)
I am also a part of the Community Service Club.
Do you plan on continuing your sport in college?
If the opportunity arises for me to walk-on a DIII college team, then I will possibly join. Yet, I am still going to college for my education, volleyball would just be an added bonus.
What are some goals set for the team this upcoming season? How do you plan to achieve them?
One goal for this season is to make the tournament/playoffs. We also want to improve our record from the past couple of years. Finally, I want the team to always have a positive, energetic vibe before every game and practice. Focusing on team bonding will help us very much achieve these goals, and always cheer our teammates on.
What is your pre-game ritual? (Songs, pre-game meals, etc.)
We try to have a team bonding/team dinner before each game. We also always stretch together before games and listen to an exciting playlist as we are warming up.
If you could have one faculty member join your team, who would it be and why?
Mr. McCluskey, because he is very tall and I feel like he could be a very powerful hitter. Also, I feel like he could be pretty intimidating to the other players. Or Mr. Whittenhall, because he used to coach girls volleyball, and I feel like he could have strong blocks and hits too.
What advice do you have for underclassmen who play your sport?
My advice would be to never give up, not until the ref blows the whistle. There will always be rough games or sets, but do not let that discourage you and bring you down. Also, to always be a team no matter what—even if someone is having a rough game, still cheer for them and encourage them. Finally, I just want them to try their best and remember to have fun with the game.
What team do you look forward to playing this season? Why?
I look forward to playing Bishop Feehan. We play at Feehan each year during their homecoming game, so it is always a fun competition against them. Since it is their homecoming game, there are more fans than usual, and it is fun to have a lot of people cheering, even if it is for the other team. We always play a good game against them, and I can’t wait to see how it will go this year!
