When did you first begin playing your sport?
I started playing Field Hockey in 4th grade.
Do you want to continue this sport in college?
No, I’m playing lacrosse in college.
What is your pre-game ritual? (Songs, pre-game meals, etc.)
I usually listen to music in the car or eat a granola bar.
What is one of your favorite sports memories?
Winning the State Championship last year and the bus ride back.
What advice do you have for underclassmen who play your sport?
It is hard and intense but to never give up because it’s worth it.
Who was a prominent coach in your sports career? Why?
I would say Jen Quinn, who is my field hockey coach, because she has taught me many life lessons and pushed me on and off the field.
What other activities/clubs are you involved in?
I also play for the lacrosse team.
How do you feel going into this season?
I feel good going into the season. The team is strong and hardworking so I’m hopeful that we will do well
What are some goals set for the team this coming season?/How do you plan to achieve these goals?
Each season we set the big goal of going for the state championship and we set mini goals in between to get there.
What team do you look forward to playing this season? Why?
I look forward to playing Norwood this year because it’s always a rivalry and this year they are very good so it will be a good, exciting game.
Sophia Fruci
When did you first begin playing your sport?
I began playing field hockey my freshman year of high school.
Do you want to continue this sport in college?
Sadly, I will not be continuing in college.
What is your pre-game ritual? (Songs, pre-game meals, etc.)
My pre-game ritual is listening to “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen.
What is one of your favorite sports memories?
My favorite sports memory was winning the state championship in 2023 for field hockey.
What advice do you have for underclassmen who play your sport?
One piece of advice that I have for underclassmen is to always put in the work, especially through practices during the season. Hard work never goes unnoticed and eventually you’ll be rewarded for the time you’ve put in.
Who was a prominent coach in your sports career? Why?
A prominent coach in my sports career is Jen Quinn. I admire how much she pushes the team to give it their all, especially when things get difficult. She wants the best for each individual and always strives towards success. No matter what obstacles are thrown at her, she always finds a way to work around them.
What other activities/clubs are you involved in?
Another sport I am a part of is the Walpole girls lacrosse team.
How do you feel going into this season?
I feel good about this upcoming season. Our team has many strengths and we have already created such a strong bond. We may not be perfect, but we have great potential to be very successful.
What are some goals set for the team this coming season?/How do you plan to achieve these goals?
Some goals set for the team this year are to keep ourselves composed and to work our hardest even when it gets difficult. In order to achieve these goals, we are going to have to rely on each other to keep our heads up and to keep pushing forward.
What team do you look forward to playing this season? Why?
One team I am most looking forward to playing this season is Norwood. Not only are they a good opponent, but my cousin plays for Norwood who also happens to be a captain. Norwood is also a good rivalry game so lots of people from both towns will be there to support.
Georgia Tashjian
When did you first begin playing your sport?
My first time playing field hockey was freshman year right before tryouts. I went to Porker camp and that was when I decided to keep playing.
Do you want to continue this sport in college?
In college, I would like to play club field hockey but I will not be committing to college for field hockey.
What is your pre-game ritual? (Songs, pre-game meals, etc.)
As I am getting ready, I always start putting things on my right leg and I will make sure part of my under sock (hocsocx) is poking out the top.
What is one of your favorite sports memories?
One of my favorite sports memories was winning the 2023 state championship.
What advice do you have for underclassmen who play your sport?
Some advice I have is use your stick and a ball during the off season and try to do camps and other activities. I also advise them to give it their all and do not give up during preseason because even though there are hard days, being able to push through them will get you to the goal you want to achieve. Their hard work will never get unnoticed by the coaches.
Who was a prominent coach in your sports career? Why?
A prominent coach in my sports career was Jen Quinn. As the head coach of field hockey she challenged me to get better each season and was able to have a positive attitude during each practice and game. This allowed me to feel welcomed into a new sport.
What other activities/clubs are you involved in?
I am also involved in Student Council, Morgan’s Message club, and the Red Cross club.
How do you feel going into this season?
Going into this season I feel as though our team is very strong skill wise and bond wise. It is always important to have a team that is able to come together and support each other and I think this team does that very well. We are able to be focused and composed during practice and games but also add fun.
What are some goals set for the team this coming season?/How do you plan to achieve these goals?
One goal we set for ourselves is to win the state championship and to do this we will put in our all at every practice and game. Another goal is to communicate on the field as there are new players and positions have changed a bit.
What team do you look forward to playing this season? Why?
This season I look forward to playing Norwood because they are our rivals and it is always a great game against them.
