“SCARING THE HOES: DIRECTOR’S CUT,” released on Oct. 22, 2025, is a deluxe edition of the experimental hip-hop album, “SCARING THE HOES,” released on March 24, 2023. This deluxe edition brings seven new tracks, adding up to 21 tracks. The album was a production of Barrington DeVaughn Hendricks (JPEGMAFIA) and Daniel Dewan Sewell (Danny Brown).
JPEGMAFIA and Brown blended the new songs with the old ones, keeping things fresh throughout.
The album opens up with a new track: “Guess What B****, We Back Hoe!” Both JPEGMAFIA and Brown are known for their strange sample usage—they can take a clip of anything and create a song around it and that is exactly what they did. They sampled one line of dialogue from Sandy Cheeks saying “No you ain’t.” from the kids television series, “Spongebob Squarepants.” This track serves to remind the listener of the feel of the album, sections of the track even includes the instrumental of the second track, “Lean Beef Patty.”
The fourth track is “SCARING THE HOES.” This track is heavily based upon the internet meme “You’re Scaring the Hoes,” which is a vulgar way of saying that they’re repelling women. This theme is repetitive throughout the track, telling the audience to “stop scaring the hoes,” implying that by listening to their music, they’re scaring the hoes. This track features a sample of the instrumentals of “Untitled – Take Away Show” by the Dirty Beaches.
The sixth track is “Fentanyl Tester.” This song is JPEGMAFIA and Brown ranting over having money, but not enough money for them to overpower everyone. The track shows how chaotic their life would be if money wasn’t a problem. This song features snippets of the iconic 2003 song, “Milkshake” by Kells. It is interesting for the listener to hear two rappers rap over a remixed version of such a recognizable piece of music.
The eighth track of the album is a two-part song called “Shut Yo B**** A** Up / Muddy Waters.” With Brown making the first half and JPEGMAFIA making the next. The sample used in this song stands out the most; they sampled the vocals of a singular “oh” from the 1977 Parliament Funkadelic song, “Funkentelechy.” The unique sample choice effectively conveyed the experimental hip-hop feel they were aiming for. JPEGMAFIA does a similar take later on with the track “CULT STATUS” in the album, “I Lay My Life Down For You: Director’s Cut.” The instrumentals are not for everyone, but that’s the whole point– it’s unique.
The 14th track is “Jack Harlow Combo Meal.” This track seamlessly blends a slow piano rhythm with high-paced drums and rapping. This song gives JPEGMAFIA and Brown the opportunity to talk poorly about American rapper Jack Harlow. Following up with the track, “HERMANOS,” meaning sibling in Spanish. However, they aren’t speaking directly about their siblings: they’re speaking to their fans as if they are their siblings.
The 18th track is freshly introduced in the deluxe album, that being “NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!” Fans started referring to the track as “No 32x” to simplify the title. The sample makes up the chorus of the entire track: a repetition of the word “no.” The sample comes from the 1969 Wisconsin Community Choir song, titled “I Have Decided To Follow Jesus.” This track is different from the rest on the album: it is more about maturing from ranting about drugs, alcohol or sex.
Following up to “Manic!” made by JPEGMAFIA, unlike other songs in the album, this one only features JPEGMAFIA. This track was initially meant to be featured in JPEGMAFIA’s 2020 album, “I HAVE FULFILLED MY CONTRACT!,” however, the album was never published. The same thing happened to “What the hip hop hell is this ?” in the album “I Lay My Life Down For You: Director’s Cut.”
The 20th track on the album is “Child’s Play,” by Brown. This track does not feature JPEGMAFIA. This track talks about Brown’s childish and immature actions he takes in life, transitioning to the last track in the album, “Roaches.” The song touches on topics of being financially unstable. A roach symbolizes a dirty and neglected household in which they may not afford to clean.
The album is able to make every track unique, each vocal and instrumental makes one track stand out from the other. The whole point of the album was to demonstrate imperfection, which both Brown and JPEGMAFIA manage to show. The seven new tracks were able to fit into and blend into the album seamlessly.
