Spring 2020’s Up and Coming Fashion Trends
With the winter season coming to an end, new spring style trends are filling Walpole High School’s hallways. Students are inspired by influencers on social media, to incorporate animal prints such as cheetah, cow print and snakeskin into basic everyday outfits to add something new.
Cheetah Print
One of the most popular patterns on the rise is cheetah print. Cheetah print can be on anything from shirts and sweaters to even sneakers and bathing suits. People will even go as far as painting cheetah print on their bright white shoes, as seen on popular apps such as TikTok and VSCO, to give their outfit a neat and unique aesthetic. Those who wear this print owe their inspiration for these ideas to famous influencers seen on social media, such as Olivia Culpo, Camille Kostek and the Kardashian-Jenner family.
“I probably would not be inclined to wear any animal print if I did not see it on other people first,” senior Abby O’Brien said. “I am inspired especially by seeing people on Instagram wear it, as I can see the ways they incorporate it into their outfits and bring it into my everyday life.”
Cow Print
Unlike 2019, when most people had brightly colored silicon phone cases, animal print is the phone case to have this year. Cow print first appeared on phone cases around the start of the year, as it is a simple and easy way to add a little something different to an otherwise basic outfit.
Within the last month, cow print has begun to take over the fashion world. Unlike cheetah print, cow print has rarely been seen on everyday clothing, like sweaters, shoes or jeans, but there is no doubt that it will shortly become one of the most popular prints.
“I first saw that cow print started trending when Kylie Jenner wore a cow bathing suit last January. After that, I saw Khloe Kardashian and a bunch of other celebrities got into the print too,” senior Hallie McLaughlin said. “Soon after, the cow print phone case came out, and I absolutely loved it, so I had to buy it for myself.”
Snakeskin
Another popular pattern found in stores this spring is snakeskin. The exotic pattern was first seen being worn onshoes such as heels and boots, but over time, it has changed. People began wearing snakeskin belts, bathing suits and even body suits to show off their style.
“I first saw snake skin last summer when it came into style. It was mainly on Instagram and VSCO, and I soon began seeing my friends wearing it. I like wearing snakeskin with basic outfits because it adds character to the outfit and can make it more dressy,” senior Brooke Lanchester said.
Overall, these patterns may seem ambitious, but given a chance, they can upgrade an outfit to something extravagant.
