Meet the Captains: Field Hockey

Liz Hinton

When did you first begin playing this sport?

I started going to Porker camp in 5th grade.

Do you want to continue this sport in college?

No.

Who was a prominent coach in your sports career? Why?

Each of my siblings because no matter the sport they were always willing to practice with me and help with whatever I needed.

What other activities/clubs are you involved in?

I also play lacrosse and am a member of UNICEF Club, Mock Trial and the film festival.

How do you feel going into this season?

This season is definitely different than others, but I think the whole team is just excited to be able to play.

What are some goals set for the team this coming season?/How do you plan to achieve these goals?

One main goal we have is to go undefeated. But we also want to have fun and make the most of this situation we are in.

Who are some big opponents/rivals? Why?

Usually our big opponents are Needham and Franklin but this year we won’t be playing them due to restrictions and precautions with COVID-19.

How has COVID-19 affected the season?

Due to the pandemic we can only play three teams: Milton, Weymouth and Braintree and instead of playing 11v11 it is 7v7.

Molly Weiand

When did you first begin playing this sport?

I started playing my freshman year.

Do you want to continue this sport in college?

I would love to but I’m playing lacrosse in college.

Who was a prominent coach in your sports career? Why?

My dad because he’s always been so supportive with sports from such a young age and has been with me through everything.

What other activities/clubs are you involved in?

I also play lacrosse and I am a part of Student Council.

How do you feel going into this season?

At first I was upset because the seniors weren’t going to get the same experience as they have in the past, but at the same time I’m extremely grateful to be able to play one last season with my team.

What are some goals set for the team this coming season?/How do you plan to achieve these goals?

We just want everyone to have fun with this season while still trying their best. Also we want to make the program better as well, so even though we don’t get our full season we’re still always giving 100% at practice and in games.

Who are some big opponents/rivals? Why?

Usually our big opponents/rivals would be Norwood and Needham because those are always such close games and everyone’s competitive side really comes out, but this year we might not get to play them.

How has COVID-19 affected the season?

This year COVID-19 has changed a bunch of the rules and affected how we used to play the game. But we’re still making the most of what we have and it’s already off to a great start.
