Romantic Comedy movies, arguably, are a part of the most notable movies released in the vast world of films. From “Notting Hill” to “10 Things I Hate About You”, to hits such as “The Notebook”, and “When Harry Met Sally,”they serve as all time favorite movies for many. However, there has not been a touching rom-com released in a long time that has been able to live up to the high standards previous rom-coms have set. Recently, rom-com fans are arguing that there is a new contender in theaters able to meet the quality and storyline of other hit movies. “Anyone but You,” starring Sydney Sweeny and Glen Powell, came to theaters Dec. 22, 2023. The movie brought in crowds of longing rom-com fans searching for an intense, hilarious and romantic story which the movie successfully accomplished. The most enticing aspects of the film, making it so enjoyable to watch, is the chemistry actress Sydney Sweeny and actor Glen Powell have together while portraying their characters Bea and Ben. Their effortless portrayal of relentlessly falling in love is extremely realistic and believable, making the film so luring and entertaining to watch. 

At the beginning of the movie, Bea and Ben meet romantically and spend a night together; but, despite an amazing first date, Bea quickly leaves his house early the next morning. However, she returns back to his house out of guilt only to find herself overhearing Ben and his friend talking negatively about their experience together. As the relationship quickly turns sour, the two coincidently cross paths again at a destination wedding to Australia. Despite the circumstances, the rivalry continues, upsetting their families. Ben and Bae fake-date despite their rivalry throughout the movie. 

Overall, the movie highlights the ups and downs of falling in love through humor and romantic moments that leave the audience feeling fulfilled. The most appealing part of watching a rom-com are the moments that truly portray the appeal of falling in love. Sweeny and Powell illustrate that aspect so effortlessly, which makes this movie one of the best rom-coms to be released in quite some time. Along with the enticing love story, the featured song in the film, “Unwritten,” by Natasha Bedingfield, creates an environment in the movie theater that gets everyone up and singing while enjoying the cute moments the characters share together. While the movie can be enjoyed by anyone, it is most notably appreciated by teenage girls and young women as the movie emulates a pure feeling of happiness and even leaves viewers longing for what the characters have together. This is, arguably again, one of the best parts of watching a really well made rom-com. On social media platforms, videos are swarming of teenage girls leaving the movie theater jumping happily up and down singing “Unwritten.” The movie has an unforgettable story that leaves audience members thinking about it as soon as you walk out of the theater. This furthermore proves how this rom-com is one of the most entertaining ones in a very long time. 

“Anyone but You” is a must see movie as it has an amazing and enticing love story, extremely funny jokes and humorous scenes, and takes place in a beautiful setting. The movie leaves people in a great mood and brings theater viewers together through the effortless portrayal of love by Sweeny and Powell that deserves all the appreciation from movie and especially rom-com lovers .
