The Pogues are back for many thrilling adventures in season four of “Outer Banks,” released on Oct. 10. A close-knit group of five teenagers from the socio-economically divided Outer Banks embark on thrilling journeys filled with adventure, treasure and danger in the first half of season four, spanning five episodes.
The first half of “Outer Banks” season four has gained much appreciation and attention in the short time it has been out. Viewers admire the thrilling plot and are excitedly awaiting part two of this season which premiers on Nov. 7.
The cast started the filming process in the beginning of summer 2023, wrapping it up a year later during the summer of 2024. They filmed in Charleston, South Carolina, which is very close to Outer Banks, North Carolina, where the show is based.
The season starts off by recapping what has happened since the last season. The Pogues, John B, Pope, JJ, Sarah, Kiara and Cleo live on the impoverished side of town. They received their money after finding the gold from the city of El Dorado, the gold city which the Pogues worked very hard to find in the previous season. The group set up a successful bait and tackle shop and they are starting to get used to what they call the “normal life.” JJ and the rest of the group bought back his childhood home in an auction, even though it never brought back any euphoric memories. They made it into their own “Pouglandia,” named after the stranded island they lived on in an earlier season. Their well-earned store gets many new customers, and they move in together. The show implements John B and Sarah’s relationship, as well as Pope and Cleo’s and JJ and Kiara’s. Although everything starts off on a hopeful note, things go astray when the Pogues spend the rest of their savings when they have an expensive payment coming up very soon.
Subsequent to finding the El Dorado gold, they had a new offer from a man named Wes Genrette to help find the Blackbeard treasure. So, John B and his crew went to visit Genrette about his offer. They agree to help find the treasure, starting the group’s next treasure hunt. They encounter new enemies along the way and find themselves in potentially fatal situations.
In this season, many characters from previous seasons make an unexpected appearance. Viewers are re-introduced to Cleo’s previous boss, Terrance, who was also her father figure. Audiences learn unexpected facts about JJ’s family tree that leave viewers shocked.
The Kooks, who live on the wealthy side of town, are also a big part of this season. Topper Thornton and Rafe Cameron return, along with many of their friends. Audiences get a closer look into Rafe and his girlfriend Sofia’s relationship. Sofia becomes a bigger part of the show and viewers get a closer look into her personal life and find out that she lives on the cut, “or the poverty-stricken side of town” which makes her a Pogue. She is forced to make financial decisions that she doesn’t know if she will regret later on, but she believes that she needs to make them to help her family.
Many fans have been binge watching the show, finishing it quickly. There have been many positive reviews and thoughts on this season along with many conspiracy theories for part two.
The show has gained so much popularity throughout the few years it has been out. The show ended with an unexpected cliff hanger, leading fans to wait patiently for the second half of season four which will be streaming on Netflix.
