There have been over 500,000 books published in 2024, including singular stories, series, trilogies and so much more. However, some stuck out more than others: here are my top five book series of 2024. Authors Laura Nowlin, Rebecca Yarros, Laura Roberts, Alex Aster and Chloe Walsh published their series this year leaving them with raving reviews.
“If He Had Been With Me” and “If Only I Had Told Her” by Nowlin is a duology following two characters: Autumn Davis and Finn Smith. Autumn and Finn are childhood best friends who are secretly in love with each other. The stories follow them through high school full of drama, heartbreak and suspense. These books are heart-wrenching, drama filled and totally worth it. “If He Had Been With Me” follows Autumn’s perspective and experience while “If Only I Had Told Her” is Finn’s. The former was published in 2013 while the latter came out in February 2024.
“Fourth Wing,” by Yarros, is the definition of a fantasy novel. In this novel, the readers follow Violet Sorrengail and her attempt to survive school—but not regular school, dragon riding school. The odds are not in Violet’s favor as she was trained to be a scribe like her father but her mother recently demanded that she has to join the riders quadrant. It reached 4.4 stars with 701 ratings, most people raving about the series. In my opinion I really enjoyed this book, it was definitely worth the money and time. The book is action packed, brutally addicting and top fantasy. The next book following this series, “Onyx Storm,” has been recently released in January
The next book is another romance and fantasy called “Powerless” by Roberts. In the book, Paedyn Gray has saved her kingdom’s prince but is forced into the Purging Trials, where her life is very much in danger. The trial is meant to test the elites power, which Paedyn is not. In the kingdom of Ilya, ordinary people were cast out by the king to preserve his Elites. With a booming 253,398 (46%) of reviews voting 5 stars, giving it a total 4.18/5, which makes it a popular fantasy across all.
Do you like a dual perspective book that covers everyone in the friend group? If so, “Boys of Tommen” by Walsh is for you. Based at a private school in Ballylaggin, Ireland, everyone in the friend group has a point of view shared. Everyone also has secrets, a past and unknown hardships. Getting attached to these characters is so easy and their friend group dynamic is so fun to read. These books were the first that actually made me cry. These books reach a total of 4.45 stars. There are currently five books out, the others will hopefully be following soon.
In “Lightlark” by Aster, every 100 years an island appears and hosts a game, the deadly kind where in order to destroy a curse, one leader out of the six must meet death. The game is called The Centennial. There are six competitors and one must die but Isla Crown has to survive. It is a game of death, love and lies. There are currently two books that follow the first. There is a promise of a fourth book and a film coming our way.
In conclusion, each of these books are extremely popular for their fabulous worlds and characters. These top books are worthy additions to your reading list.
