The long awaited second part of the “Wicked” film adaptation, “Wicked: For Good,” is now in theaters. The film released on Nov. 21, 2025 and is an emotional, yet exhilarating close to the film series. “Wicked: For Good” serves as the second act of the Broadway musical, with last year’s “Wicked” being the first act. Though the first film was released last November, it has continued to break records and keep viewers engaged and excited to see the sequel. Like the first movie, “Wicked: For Good” stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda.
In terms of the actual content in the film, it has a more emotional approach than the first, with darker color schemes and a darker storyline. Elphaba and Glinda are no longer friends like in the first film; rather enemies. With this, the film features two original songs, which weren’t in the original musical; Glinda’s solo is titled “The Girl in the Bubble” and Elphaba’s “No Place Like Home.”
After the events of the first film, Elphaba, deemed wicked by the people of Oz, is now known as the Wicked Witch of The West; therefore, every citizen of Oz is trying to find and capture her. She continues to fight for animal rights, as seen in the first film. Meanwhile, Glinda performs “Everyday More Wicked” and “Thank Goodness/I Couldn’t Be Happier,” both emphasizing Oz’s rejoice following the absence of Elphaba. Glinda remains unaffected despite her absence and finds a new sense of good from within herself; abiding by whatever Madame Morrible says in order to keep her position in class at Shiz University. This includes sending out citizens to hunt for Elphaba, despite their friendship in the first film.
Aside from the uproar around Elphaba, her and Glinda’s previous boyfriend Fiyero: played by Jonathan Bailey, perform a romantic ballad titled “As Long As You’re Mine.”They are both fugitives on the run, embracing a newfound love despite the danger and continuing their escape from The Emerald City.Elphaba casts spells out of a desperate and frustrated attempt to save the man she loves, Fiyero, performing “No Good Deed,” the most anticipated song from the both film adaptations.
To end off the film, Elphaba and Glinda rejoice, but they know they can no longer be friends. They perform “For Good,” an emotional ballad remarking upon their experiences of both films. Elphaba then “melts,” but it is revealed later in the film that Elphaba and Fiyero—who has now turned into the Tin Man, run away from Oz together to continue their love story.
“Wicked: For Good” is an emotional roller-coaster, but provides fans with a beautiful ending to the iconic story. Both films have been high-grossing and will likely continue to receive praise for many years; as the musical will likely remain on Broadway due to the success of both films.
