In late 2025, HBO Max confirmed that it would debut a third season of the teen-drama “Euphoria.” The show orbits around a group of high schoolers and their individual struggles, highlighting the troubled realities of being a teenager and the impacts substance abuse, mental health and grief has on young adults. Season 3 flashes forward five years after the characters have graduated high school.
The season premiere, “Andale,” introduced the characters’ new lives. After years of sobriety, Rue (played by Zendaya) learns she owes her former drug dealer, Laurie, $43 million and has to work as her drug mule. Meanwhile, Cassie Howard and Nate Jacobs (played by Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi) become engaged despite their intermittent dating history. Nate inherits his fathers business, however, his mismanagement creates financial issues, leading Cassie to post explicit content for money. Next, Jules , played by Hunter Schafer, becomes financially dependent on her landlord, whom she is having an affair with. Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) and Lexi Howard (Maude Apatow) pursue Hollywood careers and strive for success. The episode ends with Rue being hired by drug-lord and club-owner Alamo Brown, despite her debt to Laurie.
Episode 2, “America My Dream,” gives an insight into Maddy’s road to employment. A flashback shows Maddy demanded her assistant job at a talent agency. Maddy also begins managing social media influencers. After meeting up for the first time since high school, Maddy agrees to take Cassie as a client. Meanwhile, Rue takes one of Alamo’s girls, Angel to an alleged “rehab,”, but is not seen again for the rest of the season. “The Ballad of Paladin” centers around Cassie and Nate’s wedding. However, the celebration is interrupted when Nate’s creditor, Naz, exposes his debt to guests. After the reception, he attacks the couple and threatens them with more violence until he is repaid. On her way back from the wedding, Rue is arrested by the DEA for illegal drug possession.
Episode 4, “Kitty Likes To Dance,” picks up where the previous episode ended. Rue agrees to help the DEA investigate Alamo and Laurie by secretly recording information. After fighting with Nate, Cassie moves out and focuses on her social media career with Maddy’s help, making a name for herself. When masked gunmen rob Alamo’s club and take his safe, security footage reveals Faye, one of Laurie’s apprentices, was behind the heist.
In “This Little Piggy,” Cassie’s social media career skyrockets. With Maddy as her manager, Cassie heavily profits from her content, even starring in a television show. She wires Nate money to pay off his debt;, however, it is not enough, causing Naz to violently retaliate. Rue introduces Maddy and Alamo and they begin turning his club girls into social media models. The episode ends with Rue, helpless, while Alamo charges at her after being convinced she was trying to expose his drug business
“Stand Still and See” reveals how Alamo’s childhood shaped his distrust of others. Alamo makes Rue get a copy of the key to Laurie’s safe to steal back items Laurie’s group stole from Alamo. Meanwhile, Cassie chooses to delete her socials to pursue acting, while Naz demands payment by mailing her Nate’s severed finger. Reflecting on her troubled past, Rue turns to faith and sees a burning Joshua tree as a sign from God.
Episode 7, “Rain or Shine,” explores Ali, Rue’s sponsor’s, past addiction and how faith bettered his life. Despite Ali urging her to leave drugs and find God, Rue keeps working for Alamo after he threatens her family. A flashback reveals Naz kidnapped Cassie and buried Nate alive over his debt. Maddy convinces Alamo to save Cassie, but in return, demands 20% of her future earnings. During the exchange, Alamo kills Naz, however Nate is revealed to have died from a snake bite while underground. When Faye discovers the safe is empty, she screams, leaving Rue’s fate undecided.
In the finale, “In God We Trust”, Laurie’s business is finally shut down by a raid from the DEA. Alamo gives Rue fentanyl-laced pills as a reward, despite knowing her addiction-filled past. A tragic scene reveals Rue took the pills, and Ali finds her dead. Leaving behind his path of forgiveness and sobriety, Ali comes to Alamo’s club and kills him in revenge. The series concludes with a sense of closure and peace around Rue’s death, rather than loss and hopelessness.
Using the themes of faith, redemption and consequences, season 3 displays the characters’ experiences with real-world problems, leaving behind the euphoric and unworldly feelings of previous seasons.
