BEST
Oscar’s youngest nominee ever Quvenzhané Wallis at nine years old certainly made a lasting impression on every one there. Even though she did not win Best Actress, she was more than excited to just be nominated. When Ryan Seacrest asked her about what she chose to wear she said, “I liked it because it was sparkly and fluffy.” She even paired her dress with a puppy purse, which is her favorite accessory. Her answer was very refreshing after listening to all the other women brag about their ultra expensive, specially made, designer dresses and accessories. Her spunky personality tells me we will definitely be seeing more of this successful child.
Jennifer Lawrence’s tumble on her way up to accept her first oscar for Best Actress made her big moment even more unforgettable. Fortunately, Lawrence is known as one of Hollywood’s funniest and quirkiest personalities, so she was able to laugh it off and even gave a thumbs up to ensure she was okay. During her acceptance speech she joked, “Thank you! These guys are just standing up because they feel bad that I fell, and it’s really embarrassing! This is nuts.” Her fall was definitely much needed for a real laugh after a lot of teleprompter jokes that only provoked polite laughs from the crowd.
WORST
Seth Macfarlane did not live up to the expectations everyone had for the Family Guy creator. He really just made a fool of himself when many of his jokes fell flat throughout the show. He opened with a song he made called “We Saw Your Boobs” in which he listed off a bunch of actresses who have shown their breasts on screen. The whole thing was just uncomfortable for all, especially the poised actresses whose breasts were being called to attention. Another of his less than hilarious jokes was his jab at Chris Brown and Rihanna’s domestic violence controversy. He drew gasps from the audience when he stated, “This is the story of a man fighting to get back his woman, who’s been subjected to unthinkable violence. Or as Chris Brown and Rihanna call it, a date movie.” Doesn’t everyone know jokes about violent relationships are never appropriate? Guess not Macfarlane, who is known for being very controversial.
The Life of Pi visual effects team was cut off in the middle of their acceptance speech as they began to address the protest of supposedly underpaid visual effects artists going on outside of Dolby Theater. It was all around awkward for everyone, especially since the song they were cut off with was the “Jaws” theme song, which had absolutely no relevance to anything.
