Every Saturday at 4 PM, I host a radio show at the studios of WDIS AM 1170, in Norfolk, MA. On any given show, I can find myself discussing anything from politics to sports. Through politics, though, I’ve had some of my best interviews.
I’ve interviewed such dignitaries as Congressman Barney Frank, the bubbly and quite opinionated Massachusetts Democrat who kept interrupting me but who taught me a lot about how to properly speak to politicians, at least the type that actually have so much to say they can’t stop talking. I’ve also interviewed Scott Brown, a Wrentham state senator, who is one of only five Republicans in the State Senate and who blamed Democrats for everything I asked him about. I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing former governors, like Paul Cellucci, who also served as Ambassador to Canada at one point. According to an email he wrote to me afterwards, he thought I was a “great interviewer”.
I’ve actually been rather lucky in scoring interviews with famous people, although I haven’t been able to book all of them for my show yet. For example, I contacted Senator John Kerry’s office, requesting an interview with him and was sent a friendly email from his scheduler saying that he would be happy to do one, but we would need to narrow down a time. And then I contacted Bill Ayers, the 60s antiwar radical whose ties with Barack Obama made him a big issue in the 2008 Election. Ayers did want to do an interview with me – after the election – but the sheer thought of interviewing a man who singlehandedly engineered the bombing of many major buildings during the 1960s made me think that perhaps it would be best I didn’t speak to him at all. I also contacted the office of Governor Brian Schweitzer of Montana regarding an interview, and was surprised to find that even though we are halfway across the country from each other, apparently Governor Schweitzer would be happy to do an interview at some point in 2009.
My show airs every Saturday at 4 PM on WDIS AM 1170 in the Walpole area, and is simulcasted at that same time on the internet at wdisam.com and samobar.com. You can find out more information about the show at samobar.com/radio.
