2013 was a year of many ups and downs in the world of celebrities. Now that the year is over, let’s reminisce on all things 2013 in the life of Hollywood.
Best Moments:
Emma Roberts and Evan Peters Engagement- The “American Horror Story: Coven” co-stars and recent fiances reportedly got engaged over the holidays. According to sources, Peters popped the question on New Year’s Eve in New York City. What a great way to end the year for the couple. The two have been together since 2012, and began working together on AHS this year. Although the two would not be considered an on-screen couple, they have had a few romantic encounters on the show.
Kim and Kanye’s baby- June 15 was definitely a moment to remember for all of the Kardashian and Kanye lovers out there. The baby girl was given a punny name: North West. But according to Kimye, the baby’s name is supposed to be “inspirational” rather than “directional.” Kim and Kanye, though not yet married, are engaged. North is Kris Jenner’s third grandchild, following Penelope and Mason Disick, the children of Kourtney and Scott.
Ashton and Mila– Officially divorced from Demi Moore, it is no surprise that Ashton Kutcher, 35, is thinking about engagement with Mila Kunis. The adorable couple in “That 70s Show” has realized their love is not just on-screen. Ashton and Demi signed the divorce papers in December 2012 and he quickly moved on. Not only are they happy, but so are the many “That 70s Show” fans. Get down on one knee already, Ashton!
Justin Timberlake’s VMA Performance- Let’s all admit his ten-minute performance that featured N’sync for a short amount of awakened all the boy band obsessed young girl in all of us. He began with “Take Back The Night,” following with “SexyBack.” Anticipating an N’Sync reunion, the audience knew two songs by him was not going to be all of it. He then sang “Like I Love You,” “My Love,” “Cry Me A River” and others, before N’Sync finally emerged on the stage to sing “Girlfriend” and obviously, “Bye Bye Bye.” They soon left the stage and JT finished with songs off his latest album, “Suit and Tie” and “Mirrors.”
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire The much anticipated sequel to “Hunger Games” premiered in theaters in November, grossing $161.1 million domestically, beating The Twilight Saga: New Moon with $142 million. With extremely talented and humble Jennifer Lawrence and her two hunks, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, it’s no surprise this movie series beats out Twilight. This movie’s originality and creativity makes it a moment of 2013 to remember.
Worst Moments:
Miley Cyrus Overall- Although she may think otherwise, 2013 was definitely not Miley Cyrus’s year. After cutting off her gorgeous locks in the summer of 2013, people were shocked and wondered what other stunts Miley would pull. The question is: why? Soon after she got the new do her and Liam Hemsworth called off their engagement. Was Liam starting to see a change too? In September 2013, Miley performed on the VMAs and truly shocked America with her horrible dancing, also known as “twerking,” grinding on a married man, and humping life sized teddy bears. It was just a weird and uncomfortable performance that clearly screamed “I’m not the innocent Hannah Montana anymore.” A month later, she died her eyebrows blonde. Luckily, this only lasted a day, considering the hatred she was getting on Twitter with the hashtag #wewantmileyseyebrows. Miley has definitely transformed into a new image. Adjusting to this transformation is definitely hard for teen girls and Miley fans.
Justin Bieber Becomes Bad– Miley Cyrus isn’t the only one trying to get away from her innocent image. Justin Bieber, known for his innocent songs about girls and love, targeting little kids and teens, has taken a twist and turn into a more adult lifestyle. And by that we mean sleeping with a prostitute, getting violent with paparazzi, getting too many tattoos, getting caught smoking weed. His drastic change is very disappointing for his young fan base, who hopefully will not try to follow his lead.
JoBros Breakin Up- The three brothers mutually decided it was time to end as the Disney boy band. Nick explained to Good Morning America that he sat his brothers around the table just a couple of days before they were to leave for tour. His reasoning was that he didn’t “think this train [would] fall off the tracks without really getting real about some of the concerns and some of the limitations that [they] may feel as individuals in the group.” Apparently it was a difficult conversation and decision, but it had to be talked about. The three brothers cancelled their 19-city upcoming tour after releasing two unsuccessful singles, “Pom Poms” and “First Time.” Looks like from now on, all they’ll be is brothers.
Bruce and Kris- The most famous family in Hollywood has broken up. On the scenes of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, the family seems like a fun, loving, and easy-going family, but behind the scenes, they are just like any family. They have flaws. When it was announced they were getting a divorce, no one wanted to believe it. But the secret was out and the show kept going. Rumors have been swirling for a while, especially since on the show this season, Bruce moved out to a beach house which seemed very suspicious to viewers although the couple claimed it was just so they could have some space from each other.
Zac Efron goes to rehab- This was worse than hearing about the breakup with him and Vanessa Hudgens. The former High School Musical sweetheart addicted to cocaine rather than basketball and singing? It just doesn’t seem right. Luckily, he’s been six months sober since he decided to join rehab. He has proved he is a great actor, so hopefully he doesn’t continue going down the wrong path and ruin his career like so many others with potential before him.
