Sometimes what can make a moment, scene, or entire movie absolutely phenomenal is not the cinematography, acting, or art direction — it’s the music. Throughout the the last century of movies, some of the most memorable songs have come from movies and their corresponding soundtracks.
This year, the animated Disney movie Frozen captivated the nation and to this day, has grossed almost a billion dollars worldwide. One of the most memorable aspects of the film was the introduction of a new song, performed by Idina Menzel’s character Elsa, called “Let It Go.” The track took home Best Original Song at the Oscars and has been covered countless times on YouTube. Beautiful renditions, parody videos, and even heavy-metal covers have conveyed the viral aspect of the catchy tune and have helped make the Disney musical memorable.
Many other musicals and movies have been noted throughout the years for their impeccable score. Original hits like “Lose Yourself” by Eminem from his movie 8 Mile or Lorde’s rendition of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” for Hunger Games: Catching Fire are just a few of the excellent songs that made movie soundtrack in the 2000’s. Musicals of decades past have produced some impactful songs, too such as Grease’s “Summer Nights” and the Sound of Music’s “Do-Re-Mi.” This playlist covers some of the hits that have been the most memorable this past century.
