Although most music fans see modern Metal music as just loud coarse screaming and satanic mumblings, that stereotype couldn’t be more wrong. Metal music does not sugarcoat life’s flaws, and it does not emphasize a happy-go-lucky feel. The songs of modern Metal are blunt and raw, so if bubblegum pop artists who talk about nothing more than sex, money and drugs are no longer appealing, then listen to this playlist.
Songs like “To a Breathless Oblivion”, “Moonlight Equilibrium”, and “Rage” are more along the lines of stereotypical Metal music, as they contain gritty screamo aspects.
Other songs such as “Raining Blood” and “For Whom the Bell Tolls” show the more classic side to Metal, because they have gravelly vocals, but rarely do they contain the screaming that bands such as Attila or Black Dahlia Murder incorporate. Just as BDM does, the bands Dear Whoever and Blessthefall shout and have heavy beats. Surprisingly, they are Christian groups. Their songs have religious messages that are mixed in with all of the seemingly dark sounding instrumentals and vocals.
Others like “Devil Wears Prada” and “A Skylit Drive” may not be Christian, but their messages are not evil. Many people find metal to be the “Devil’s music” but these bands break that stereotype. They do not worship Satan nor do they sing of anything wicked or foul. Their songs “Escape” and “Drown the City” have both harmonious vocals and hoarse wails which categorize them satisfactorily as modern metal.
Slipknot favors the use of hard beats, yet they have a mixture of a guttural and melodious vocals. Their hit, “Psychosocial”, is the epitome of modern Metal because incorporates all things ‘metal’. In it are signature screams, euphonious vocals, intense, headbanging rhythms.
All people have a touch of rage and a metalhead mentality dying to burst out from within them, so come on over to the dark side of the musical spectrum and hit the play button if you dare.
