Girls Hockey (2-3-2): Walpole Girls Hockey matched their win total from last season with a win against Milton on January 10. Boys Track (3-0): After the long break, Walpole Boys Track came back and beat Wellesley on January 9, 65-31. With key victories from senior Brendan Wohler (4:41 in the Mile) and juniors Nick Ricci (38.41 in the 300-meter dash) and Nick Campobasso (43’1.50ยจ in Shot Put), the Rebels gained confidence going into the Natick meet on January 15, which will most likely determine the winner of the Bay State Herget title.
Girls Track (2-1): Walpole Girls Track suffered their first loss of the season on January 8 against Wellesley, losing to the Raiders 55-45. Despite this loss, four athletes performed well enough to earn berths to the Division III meet in February: senior Maureen Herlihy (600-meter dash, 1:45), junior Tori Lynch (high jump, 4’9″), sophomore Stephanie Forester (two mile, 12:13), and freshman Sarah Tierney (1000-meter run, 3:18). The Lady Rebels race against Natick on January 15 for a share of the Herget title.
Wrestling (8-4-2): Coming off a lackluster finish in the Marlborough Tournament, Walpole Wrestling knew they needed a convincing win. With wins against Worcester Tech and Shepherd Hill and a close loss to host Hopkinton on January 3, they got the momentum they needed to go into the home quad on January 10. The Rebels went 2-1 in the home quad, with decisive victories over Dighton-Rehoboth and Toll Gate (RI) and a heartbreaking 39-37 loss to King Philip.
Gymnastics (0-4): Walpole Gymnastics suffered another injury-related blow when senior Captain Christina Coville went down with a foot injury after the meet against Newton North on January 9. The Lady Rebels then went on to drop their latest meet against Norwood on January 13, 122.2-106.55. The team looks for their first victory in their next meet, January 16 against Brookline.
