If you have some gift lying around the house that you do not use, you might as well re-gift it. But, you have to make sure you carry out the re-gifting procedure effectively and correctly.
This may seem like a no-brainer, but do not re-wrap the gift in the same paper you got it from. First off, the gift will look messy because you tried to piece together the ripped wrapping paper. At least re-wrap the gift with new paper. I mean, you are giving them a used gift so you might as well put some effort into the presentation.
Secondly, absolutely do not re-gift the present to the same person. Make sure you give it to someone that has no relation to the other person. If you do end up giving it to the same person, the transaction will be embarrassing and you will probably ruin that relationship. So, the lesson here is be careful to whom you re-gift. Make sure they do not know each other so they will not find their gift in someone else’s house and be angry with you for your reckless re-gifting etiquette.
The art of re-gifting is a very intricate process that may even take more effort than getting another gift, but it certainly costs less money and it helps you get rid of some clutter. The risks of ruining a relationship are great, but re-gifting is worth it if you can do it right.
