As seniors transition into their final semester of high school, it can be very difficult to find the motivation to get school assignments done, let alone show up to class. Even in class it is hard to focus and find the drive to learn new concepts. For specific classes, most seniors are just trying to get above an 80 to avoid taking their finals. Once students have already been accepted to colleges, it may seem like putting effort into school is unnecessary; however, it is important to stay consistent in school as colleges will look at final semester grades. Seniors should still be trying their best to maintain their grades so colleges do not have any reason to deny admissions to already accepted students. Finding some tactics to get through the final semester is going to be most helpful in getting through these next three months of high school.
Although it is often hard, staying on top of assignments is the best thing seniors can do. Falling behind in schoolwork is only going to make it harder to catch up as it is extremely difficult to find the motivation to complete assignments. Especially when it comes to keeping grades up, assignments still need to be thoroughly completed and turned in in a timely manner. When it comes to quizzes or tests, it is really important to understand the material because students do not want to have to retake assessments after school.
Seniors who have turned 18 also struggle with the newfound freedom of getting to dismiss themselves from school, especially during study periods. Despite it being very tempting to leave during a study block in the day, it is not helpful if they need to get work done. Most seniors who go home for study sit in their bed and do nothing or go get food from somewhere. Leaving during the day is similar to college where students get breaks in their days. With freedom comes responsibility however, and if students need to get assignments done they should try to stay during their study period so they do not have to worry about the assignments later on. Seniors’ ability to leave for study causes them to be eager for the college lifestyle and even more ready to be done with high school.
Staying active in all of the senior events that are coming up will also make these last few months more enjoyable. Taking part in events like senior skip day, senior assassin, senior sunset, prom and more will make the whole experience of the end of senior year more exciting and give the seniors something to look forward to.
Remembering that all the other seniors are dealing with the same case of ‘senioritis’ is helpful in knowing that no one is alone in just wanting to be done with high school. The end seems so far away, but it is closer than you think and will come before you know it.
