With big events at the end of each school year, it is important to remember to actually live in the moment instead of for the moment. There are multiple special occasions that only happen once, which is why you should take in the event and not focus on what your next Instagram post will look like or getting the right profile picture. Having the ability to look back at fun memories on social media can be nostalgic, but it should not be the main focus of these memorable events. Being able to live in the present is a skill that will only benefit you.
Placing down your phone and taking in your surroundings can make each event so much more fun than it would typically be with phones. Without the stress of getting the perfect photo, you will actually appreciate the moment. While photos can be sentimental and reminiscing can be nice, putting pictures and social media before your actual well being is not healthy. It is best to focus on the present, the future and most importantly who you are in real life instead of on the internet.
You should not prioritize taking photos over enjoying yourself because it is better for you to focus on events that will positively affect or change your life. Focusing on your personal happiness is also why it is important to not put all of your effort into social media. The media you intake can often distract you from the real goal, which is to live life to the fullest. Furthermore, when it comes to the online community, there are a lot of requirements to be seen as perfect or even just accepted. Due to the harsh regulations put into place by people with no true qualification, there is a large amount of anxiety that surrounds being on the internet. Therefore, it would ultimately be beneficial if people just put down their phones and paid attention to the world around them. Something as simple as not going on your phone can alter how you view your community. It can cause you to be kinder and recognize the small actions people take to make the world a better place. Although it might seem minor, taking your mind off of social media can really open your eyes and help you truly see the society you live in.
Living in the moment is significantly better than living for the moment. People often forget to really take in the world around them and appreciate the little things. It can be difficult at times, but if you put your phone down, these special occasions will be more memorable.
