American rapper and singer, Doja Cat debuted her fifth studio album, “Vie” on Sept. 26, arguably marking her most musically-versatile work yet. Doja has always been known to have a strange, unique way of producing and promoting her music but this project took it to the next level.
The album has a total of 15 tracks, making the album roughly 50 minutes long. Every track on “Vie” has a new feel to it which Doja has yet to explore before this release. Whether it was the production, or Doja’s singing and songwriting, the album blends varying genres to create an all-new sound. The entire album was heavily influenced by the 1980s and its aesthetic, incorporating themes of jazz and danceable music which made the album whole. Along with this, when Doja announced the tracklist for “Vie” she announced that the album is enhanced with an exciting feature by prominent Rhythm and Blues artist, SZA, on the eighth track, titled “Take Me Dancing.”
“Vie” is Doja’s first album since “Scarlet” which was released back in Sept. 2023. The album’s lead single, “Jealous Type” released in August, started the album’s rollout. Since then, “Vie” has had three music videos, with songs, “Gorgeous” and “Stranger” being promoted as the new singles, as well as “Jealous Type” still being played on radio stations and social media platforms. Along with music videos, Doja performed “Jealous Type” live for the first time at the MTV Video Music Awards this year. The performance was the first of the night and certainly left her fans eager to see more of the album live. Thankfully for those said fans, Doja recently announced that she will embark on “Tour Ma Vie,” a world tour, going from New Zealand to New York City, with performances through Dec. 1, 2026. “Tour Ma Vie” begins in international arenas in late November of this year. Tickets for “Tour Ma Vie” go on sale to the general public on Oct. 10, but there is also the option to buy tickets through various pre-sales through Ticketmaster.
With each new installment into Doja Cat’s career, it shows her evolving as an artist, becoming uniquely herself with each project. She has become increasingly comfortable with pushing boundaries and setting high stakes for herself, which is why she keeps improving as an artist, and this is likely only the start. Ever since 2020, when hits like “Say So” and “Woman” went viral on social media, especially TikTok and Instagram, Doja was destined to be a well-known artist. Doja is set to take the stage at TD Garden in Boston on Nov. 23 of next year.
