The end of a term or semester can give both students and their educators a lot of stress. Teachers tend to often schedule a great deal of tests, quizzes, essays and projects as the term comes to a close. Because each teacher assigns a heavy workload, students become overwhelmed with the amount of assignments they have to complete and teachers can get anxious about grading in a timely manner. However, there are multiple ways to handle the workload and stress that come with it.
At the end of a quarter, many teachers give term tests or projects in order to recap everything learned over the course of the quarter. While summarizing what was taught over a term, it creates a great deal of stress and anxiety because there is a limited amount of time to study for tests or complete major assignments.
One way to help with a student’s workload is for teachers to periodically assign tests throughout the last few weeks of the term instead of just the last few days. Teachers have the ability to spread out the quantity of work that they put onto students and can alter their teaching schedule to fit around a certain test day, which they should do more often. Although teachers can change the workload that is put onto students, they commonly do not. Based on the course level and the students in it, the teachers can determine how much time students have to complete assignments and how difficult they are. The end of the term can also make teachers anxious because of the number of assignments they have to grade. Unlike the beginning of the term, teachers have a rigid timeline for entering grades in the grade book, which can put on a lot of pressure.
Furthermore, students also play a big role in handling their stress and quantity of homework. Time management is something that every teen has to learn for a successful high school experience. Between sports, homework and studying, students can have a lot on their plate; therefore, they must find a way to get everything done in a timely manner. Cramming for a test or quiz the night before is not an efficient way to study and can lead to a lot of anxiety.
Procrastinating certain tasks will result in a build up of work, which could even cause cheating. If one has a large number of assignments due in a short amount of time, high schoolers could resort to cheating by utilizing AI because of the pressure that they ended up putting on themselves. A way to counteract this procrastination is to gradually complete work by giving oneself a set amount of time each day so the assignment can be finished by the end of the week. Students can also utilize nights when they have less homework than usual or free periods. They can also create a study group with friends to help for upcoming assessments.
The end of the quarter inevitably comes with a lot of tasks to do; however, there can be many ways that both teachers and students manage this. Whether it is a major test or a project, pressure at the end of the term puts a sizable amount of anxiety on educators and high schoolers. Students and teachers can spread out their workload by gradually completing tasks over the course of the week. Students could also create study groups with their friends in order to prepare for tests and quizzes. As each term comes to a close, it creates high stress levels and plenty of assignments to finish and grade.
