In 2022, the term “Sunday Reset” took hold of the internet. It became a trend with the hashtag “SundayReset” on TikTok has become more key as time has gone on. Videos posted to the trend include people recording themselves while cleaning, organizing and doing selfcare, including shower routines and using face masks, all in order to set the mood for the week. The trend stems from the idea of getting rid of the “Sunday Scaries,” another social media term used to express the large amounts of stress one feels when preparing for the week ahead. The anxiety you feel might be from school, sports, work or other tasks you have scheduled for the following week. The Sunday Reset gives people something to do that starts the week off right.
It is first important to note that everyone’s reset will look different. Some people find peace in exercise and being active, while some find it in relaxing on the couch and watching their favorite show. Some Sundays may be filled with sports events, while others may include family outings or religious commitments. Many may find that the best time to start a Sunday Reset is not when you wake up, but rather after all your commitments for the day are done because then you have time to just focus on yourself and nothing else.
A Sunday Reset is important because it sets the tone for the rest of the week. If you go into the week with a clean room and all your chores done, your mind is able to focus on your important tasks for the week. A clean room means a clear mind and a good environment for doing weekly tasks is very important. A Sunday Reset can also improve sleep quality. After a weekend or school vacation of staying up late, it is important to have an early bedtime to improve your quality of sleep. Being productive feels good; going to bed with a clean room, clean body and clean mind after being productive makes you feel like you are ready for the challenges ahead of you for the week.
Sunday Resets may seem challenging and exhausting at first, but you will feel much better after you have done one. It makes those typically hard Monday mornings a lot easier. It is important to stay consistent with doing the resets, but it is also important to note that sometimes it doesn’t happen and that is okay. Everyday life can get in the way and sometimes but it is important to still maintain a clean room. An example of a Sunday Reset could be to start with a walk on my treadmill in order to get your blood flowing and get into the right mindset. Next, take an “everything shower,” meaning washing your hair, using a hair mask and shaving. Another way could be taking a calming epsom salt bath. After the shower, do hair and skin prep for the week then clean your room or reorganize your vanity. To avoid added stress in the morning, many pick out their outfit for the next day. Once the space is clean, do any remaining homework.
Sundays can be scary with a week ahead of school, sports and other tasks, but a Sunday Reset can ensure that your week starts off fresh and as clean as possible. You may notice that during a Sunday Reset, you are more motivated to clean and be more productive. If you struggle with the “Sunday Scaries,” a “Sunday Reset” can be a great tool.
