The Seattle Seahawks have officially claimed their second Super Bowl title in franchise history after defeating the New England Patriots 29-13. This year, Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. hosted Super Bowl LX with over 70,800 fans in attendance. The Patriots went into the playoffs as a second seed in the AFC, finishing their regular season with a record of 14-3. The team became the first in National Football League (NFL) history to finish the season undefeated on the road, securing a total of nine away victories during the regular season. The Seahawks also finished the regular season with a record of 14-3, but due to their objectively more competitive schedule, they entered the post season as a number one seed in the NFC. Seattle faced top five teams, including the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams, on multiple occasions, whereas the majority of the Patriots regular season competitors were last place teams including the Tennessee Titans and the New York Jets. Despite the teams having similar regular season outcomes, the championship game resulted in total dominance by the Seahawks.
The first quarter lacked offensive production for either team with Seahawks kicker, Jason Myers, being the only player to score with a successful 33-yard field goal. Myers, a former kicker for Marist University, finished his 11th NFL season with an 85.4 field goal percentage and scored a total of 151 points, the most of any kicker in the NFL during the 2025-2026 season.
Continuing to build their lead in the second quarter, Myers scored a 39 and 41-yard field goal to make for a score of 9-0 in favor of Seattle moving into half time. Puerto Rican pop singer, Bad Bunny, headlined this year’s Half Time Show with a 13 minute performance. This year’s show became the fourth most viewed Half Time Show ever with a total of 128.2 million viewers, falling short of last year’s performance by Kendrick Lamar, which totaled 133.5 million viewers.
To open the second half, Myers continued his efficient output, scoring another 41-yard field goal. The remainder of the third quarter stayed stagnant with both teams’ defense dominating the game.
The final quarter was filled with action, with Seahawks tight end AJ Barner scoring an early touchdown off of a pass from quarterback Sam Darnold. The touchdown was followed by a successful extra point kick by Myers. Darnold was fifth in the league for passing yards this year with a total of 4,048 throughout the season. Additionally, Darnold scored 25 touchdowns this season, ninth most by a quarterback in the NFL. The Patriots were able to trim their deficit with a touchdown by wide receiver Mack Hollins off of a deep left pass from quarterback Drake Maye. Kicker Andy Borregales followed with a successful extra point. Maye, the second-year quarterback, excited fans over the course of the 2025-2026 season with several impressive performances. He accumulated a total of 4,394 passing yards and 31 touchdowns, the third most touchdowns by a quarterback this season. The Seahawks came back with more offensive production with another successful field goal by Myers, followed by an intercepted pass by the Seahawks. Maye’s pass was intercepted by Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon at the Patriots’ 45-yard line, resulting in a touchdown. Myers subsequently made the extra point. To close out the fourth quarter, Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevonson scored a 7-yard rushing touchdown off of a pass from Maye. Borregales followed with an unsuccessful kick for a final score of 29-13 in favor of the Seattle Seahawks.
Although the season has come to a close, teams are planning to begin preparing their teams during the upcoming off season in hopes of a better outcome next year. The NFL draft is scheduled to begin on April 23 with the regular season kicking off during the first week of September. Games for next season can be streamed on platforms such as NFL+, ESPN and Hulu+.
