Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, released his 12th studio album titled “BULLY” with the album scheduled to be released on March 27, 2026; however, three hours before its release, Ye deleted the album preview off of all streaming services. After a day of silence, Ye finally released the album on March 28, 2026. He also releases physical versions of the album: 10 different record variants, CD’s and cassettes. Fans were expecting a delay: the album was first promised on June 15, 2025 and was continuously postponed, it would’ve been no surprise to them.
By publishing his apology letter through The Wall Street Journal, apologizing for all the antisemitic, racist, sexist and homophobic statements that he has said in the past, he promised to be a better person in the future. The meaning of the album changed after that moment: the album was supposed to be a threat towards Adidas, due to their company suspending their partnership with Yeezy. This was done after Ye announced a t-shirt with a swastika stamped onto it. In Ye’s apology, he stated that his actions were a result of him being in a bipolar manic episode and that he did not have intentions of hurting anyone with his form of hate speech.
“I regret and am deeply mortified by my actions in that state, and am committed to accountability, treatment, and meaningful change,” Ye said.
Ye’s album shows character development: the title changed to a new meaning, he was the bully all along. This is seen in songs like “ALL THE LOVE” where the message is about him leaving his past self behind.
He reflects on his past self. The ninth track of the album, titled “BULLY,” being the same title as the album itself, says plenty about him and the situation he was in: it is Ye realizing he was in the wrong. He shows his perspective of how he felt after his actions from the past.
“Too late, my system’s run amok / I wanna beat somebody up / Like a bully, mm,” Ye said.
Ye also released the album under his old artist profile, “Kanye West.” This could be a way of Ye reflecting on his past self. The audience loved Kanye West, but his fan-base decreased significantly after his name change and radical decisions.
Parts of the album had to be re-recorded: Ye was receiving backlash ever since he stated that he used Artificial Intelligence to produce and make vocals for several of his previous albums, like “Donda 2” and “Vultures 2.” Fans were infuriated and Ye’s albums ended up feeling unnatural, so much so that albums with AI ended up being the least successful in his entire discography. Ye listened to his audience, promising no AI would be used in the making of the album. Songs like “PREACHER MAN” had to be remade completely, since their initial version was almost completely AI generated.
“BULLY ON THE WAY NO AI,” Ye said.
The first version of the album leaked much before its release date; however, the album was completely different, it was originally named “CUCK.” According to Digital Music News, the original version of the album was highly controversial, having antiseminist, sexist, and racist speech. The songs were leaked on Discord in March 2025 and all the money made off of the leak was donated to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Ye expressed his ability to change for the better in “BULLY.” The album focuses on his self improvement, proving that he did not need artificial intelligence to make vocals and produce for him. There was a much larger hype on his album compared to his other recent albums. This is the closest fans have gotten to their prime “Kanye West era” returning, back to the time period where he was most popular and successful.
