The platform also includes President Donald Trump’s main focus for the country and statistics from this term. Many people have voiced their opinions on the app since it was released. Some citizens are worried about security risks, while others use the app for fast news updates.

Currently, the app features a home page, news page, live streams, videos, a photo gallery and an overview of social media posts by the president and other news sources. In the social media section, there is an icon in the corner that is labeled “Text President Trump.” If one clicks on this, it has a pre-written message saying “Greatest President Ever!” If you send this message, a link will be sent for you to fill out a form to add yourself to Trump’s community.
Many online are hesitant to download the app, claiming it brings security risks, yet it has surpassed nearly two million downloads only several days after it was released. Although there is a large amount of downloads, there is still a number of opinions on the app as people online. Many users are concerned that their information will not be protected strongly enough through the program because many government run apps are easily able to share ones information. Although the app mainly provides news sources, there are other parts of the app that are used to show Trump’s priorities, achievements and presidential statistics.

Although the country has had the technology and ability to develop a platform, this is the first time the White House has had an app available to smartphone users with the intent of providing credible news. Previous administrations have relied on the White House website and social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and X. Although the White House app is being advertised as an informational news app, it is important to note that the app is being developed by the administration in the White House and many people are stating that it is one-sided and is being used for political promotion from the administration. With their current access to social media, the administration has the ability to promote whatever they want, which allows them to connect with young adults and possibly promote their party rather than spreading news. Part of the criticism of the app is the belief that it is an attempt to corrupt the news and that it will not be unbiased. The platform is also known to collect users data, as well as sharing information with other sources. While most apps are known to collect data, a government run app obtaining one’s data could become a part of long term records within the government which is something worth thinking about if one is concerned about personal privacy.
Regardless of users’ online opinions about the app, it is still available for citizens to gain information and updates from government officials. Although, it is important to keep in mind that this app is being run by White House officials and may be used to support their party’s agenda.
