Experimental rap artist and producer JPEGMAFIA released his sixth studio album, “EXPERIMENTAL RAP,” on May 21, 2026, only seven months apart from his last album release, “SCARING THE HOES: DIRECTOR’S CUT.” JPEGMAFIA claimed that he represents the genre of experimental rap as a whole.
“I’m already the best in the space of experimental rap. There’s no one who competes with me. There’s no one who does what I do,” JPEGMAFIA said. “Me naming it ‘EXPERIMENTAL RAP’ is just me laying claim to something I already had.”
The lead single, “babygirl,” was released on Apr. 30, 2026, the same day he announced the album and upcoming tour. The track builds upon the idea that JPEGMAFIA is the most recognizable artist within the experimental rap community.
The 24th track in the album, “The 1st Amendment,” is the most streamed track on the album. JPEGMAFIA’s hard kicks and riffs used in the song make the production catchy, and the lyrics show JPEGMAFIA tests and pushes the limits of one of the First Amendment rights: the freedom of speech. He constantly speaks down to conservative public speaker Charlie Kirk and mocks him throughout the song. He also addresses present-day issues such as violence towards immigrants due to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and cruel landlords .
JPEGMAFIA is most well recognized for his use of iconic samples: the ninth track, “The Ghost Of Emmett Till,” features a sample from Bunny Sigler, which is the same sample featured in Tyler, The Creator’s hit song from 2015, “BUFFALO.” And in track 16, “Lights,” JPEGMAFIA samples a song from Kanye West’s 2010 hit song “All of the Lights.”
JPEGMAFIA responded to the hate he has gotten from working on music with Ye in the past due to how controversial Ye is due to his hate speech. JPEGMAFIA responded to the situation by mocking Ye’s actions, claiming that Ye is a racist and admires white supremacy. JPEGMAFIA is seen trying to protest against the belief of white supremacy a lot throughout the album, going as far as writing a message to his fans on his Bandcamp account.
“If you don’t like this album, good, that means you don’t like me and you can stop listening now. Go find an artist that makes you feel good about yourself. Because this black man is standing firm against white supremacy until I die,” JPEGMAFIA said.
The album concludes with “You will always lose money chasing women, but you will never lose women chasing money.” The title of the track sparked hate towards JPEGMAFIA: fans found the title corny. The track is almost fully instrumental and features JPEGMAFIA’s most iconic producer tags that he has been using since his earliest works, put back to back.
“Do you think you know me? / I’ve named this one JPEG because I like JPEGs for the resolution, the color, the size of them,” the tags said.
“EXPERIMENTAL RAP” shows JPEGMAFIA taking ownership to represent the genre of experimental rap as a whole in his newest album. The album was a success in the experimental community, showing how JPEGMAFIA represents it.
