It’s that time of year again…prom! In the months leading up to the big event, there is a lot of excitement and anticipation. In this bad economy, there is also a lot of concern over the expense of the prom, and all the preparation that it entails. It would not be a surprise to see many people preparing for prom in cheaper ways, trying to save money. The usual ostentatious sight of limos, tuxedoes, and fancy dresses everywhere may not be what is seen this year. In these tough economic times, people are looking for ways to save money, but still have a great and beautiful prom experience. There are several ways to do this.
The first way to save at the prom is to look for an outfit from a thrift store. You could also browse sales for a great tux or dress. Another interesting and thrifty idea is to make your own outfit. You could even copy it after a celebrity’s if you saw one you loved but could not afford. These options provide you with an almost 100% guarantee that your look will be totally original; no one will have the same one as you. Something else that you could do in order to save some cash is to decide to take a different mode of transportation than a limousine. Several other options besides a limo are cool and unique, such as convertible or even a motorcycle. You could also take your own car.
Whether or not you go with a date, by yourself, or with a group of people, there are also some ways to pay for transportation, prom tickets, and the restaurant before prom. If you go with a date or a group, you could all make sure to split expenses evenly. You could also have a little party at home and have your dinner there before the prom, instead of going to a restaurant.
The school is also trying to save money at the prom this year. Although they had been thinking about hosting the prom at Gillette Stadium, they have since reconsidered this idea, and are now having the prom at Christina’s again. What’s the reason for this decision? The cost per person for the prom at Gillette Stadium would have been approximately 100 dollars or more, versus the cost of Christina’s: 55 dollars a person. It was obvious when comparing the two places that Christina’s was much more reasonable financially, although Gillette Stadium would have been a memorable experience. In addition to the increase in ticket price, Gillette Stadium would also cost more money and time to decorate it. Christina’s is already a beautiful place, and so therefore, it does not need much decoration at all.
Most importantly though, no matter what your budget is, make sure to have fun at this year’s prom.
