The Boston Bruins started their 2025-2026 season on Oct. 8 against the Washington Capitals at the Capital One Arena. This season, the Bruins are taking a different approach to the season. With no head captain, the Bruins named three assistant captains; Charlie Macavoy, David Pastranak and Hampus Lindhom. As well as receiving new players, the Bruins hired new head coach, Marco Sturm. Sturm formerly played for the Bruins from 2005 to 2010 as a left wing. Sturm is taking a different coaching style in the rink. Sturm directs his attention to the team’s defense. He has expressed that if the team has an aggressive and strong defense, it will lead them to victory.
“For me, it’s a mindset going in…Do you want to play a 1-0 game or do you want to play that open game?” Sturm said. Currently, the team is adjusting to their new coach and the new coaching system he brings to Boston. However, fans should be very excited about the team’s new coaching that will hopefully lead them to the playoffs.
So far, the Bruins have played seven games, most recently on Oct. 21. Their first game on Oct. 8, against the Washington Capitals was a victory for the Bruins with a final score of 3-1. The key players for Boston were right wing Pastranak, with one goal and two assists, as well as goaltender Jeremey Swayman with 35 saves. This first-game win for the team brought an exciting and hopeful energy to Boston. The team played the Chicago Blackhawks the next day with a final score of 4-3, resulting in another Bruins win.
On Oct. 16, the Bruins started their first road game out of three. They started in Las Vegas against the Golden Knights, then made their way to Colorado to face off against the Avalanche. They will end off in Utah going against the Mammoth.
On Oct. 21, the Bruins played a game against the Florida Panthers back in their home rink, playing a video to honor former captain Brad Marchand. During this video, Marchand got emotional and watched with tears in his eyes. During this game, they tied at the last minute, but ended up losing in the last 20 seconds of the game.
The Boston Bruins record is currently 3-5. With the addition of new players and a new coach, the team is adjusting very well. For example, after previously playing for the Los Angeles Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning; Boston’s new left wing Tanner Jeannot brought a sense of toughness and leadership to the team while being known as one of the toughest players in the NHL. New coach Sturm has had a great voice behind the bench motivating players to try their best. He wants players to buy into his defensive minded style and his complete team effort. The Bruins will play again on Oct. 30 against the Buffalo Sabres at 7 p.m. This game can be watched on Fox Sports, ESPN, Hulu and various other streaming platforms.
