Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” ended over a year ago; however, Swift is cherishing the memories made on the tour. As of Dec. 12, Swift has begun a new era—not an era with a new album, nor new music videos, but instead a documentary series giving her fans a behind-the-scenes look at what went into producing the highest-grossing tour in history. The six episode documentary series is titled “Taylor Swift: The End of an Era.” Each week, two episodes will be released on the streaming service, Disney+ at 3 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Since the series’s announcement, Swift has released three trailers—all of which featured rehearsal clips, the process of special guests making appearances on “The Eras Tour” and more. Swift discusses the struggle, success and fear of putting on a show that required a massive amount of effort, drive and perseverance.
“It’s the biggest challenge any of us have ever done,” Swift said.
“The Eras Tour” held shows for nearly two years, with performances all over the world. As for the show itself, during each performance, Swift performed over 40 songs, with back-up dancers to illuminate the overall show. Each show featured a “surprise song” set, where Swift would perform one song on guitar and the other on the piano. This set became particularly loved by fans. In addition to the surprise songs, Swift would occasionally bring out other musicians to perform duets to each other’s songs. Throughout the tour, Swift brought out Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, Florence + The Machine, Maren Morris, Jack Antonoff, Aaron Dessner and Marcus Mumford.
“I wanted to overserve the fans, in terms of the amount of songs they were going to hear, and how far I was going to push myself. My main goal is to give something to the fans they didn’t expect,” Swift said.
The series also features never-before-seen phone calls and in-person interactions with Swift and fiancé Travis Kelce, including when Kelce performed with Swift as a back-up dancer during “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”
A year after the tour’s close, fans of Swift cherish memories made from “The Eras Tour.” Swift also still celebrates the tour and its success.
“This show created a bonding experience for 70,000 people all at once. There’s something very special about that,” Swift said.
In addition to this documentary series, Swift has also re-recorded and released a new version of the concert film, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour | The Final Show.” The film was recorded on the final night of “The Eras Tour” in Vancouver, B.C., featuring the “Tortured Poets Department” set, which was not in the original “The Eras Tour” film, released in Oct. 2023. The set featured six new performances: “But Daddy I Love Him,” “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?,” “Down Bad,” “Fortnight,” “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”
Despite receiving backlash for poor songwriting and lack of depth on her most recent album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” Swift continues to be one of the hardest-working artists in the music industry.“Taylor Swift: The End of an Era” and “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour | The Final Show” are now available to stream exclusively on Disney+.
