On Jan. 16, Madison Beer began her newest era with a new album titled “locket.” The album lasts just under 40 minutes, featuring 11 tracks, including the viral single, “make you mine.” Along with “make you mine,” Beer released two other singles titled “yes baby” and “bittersweet,” each accompanied by a music video. On the album’s release day, Beer released yet another music video for the album’s fifth track, “bad enough.” At 26 years old, Beer is improving, and beginning a new chapter of her music career.
Beer began her career as an influencer, going viral singing a cover of Etta James’s 1960 classic “At Last,” on YouTube in 2012, the year she started making music. Within the next year, at only 13 years old, Beer and her music were discovered by critically-acclaimed artist Justin Bieber, thus beginning her career. Since then, Beer has released three full-length albums, been nominated for two Grammy awards, released a memoir and has gone on a world tour, titled “The Spinnin’ Tour.” Beer’s music blends pop, R&B and electronic, often featuring lyrics about mental health, relationships and self-empowerment following breakups. She showed an unseen side of her career in her 2023 memoir, “The Half of It,” and in her sophomore album, “Silence Between Songs,” released the same year. Theses additions to Beer’s career tragically yet elegantly touched upon her mental health and its decline, her struggles with suicidal ideation, her diagnosis with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and her ultimate recovery.
“Bittersweet,” a track featured on the new album, became Beer’s first song ever to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, at number 98. The track is about overcoming the challenges of staying with someone and the ironic blame they may place on you after the relationship is over.
“I’m gettin’ over what you put me through/And I’d say I’m done cryin’, but baby, I don’t lie like you do,” Beer said.
Furthermore, the track follows how Beer’s partner blamed their relationship ending entirely on her.
“Now that it’s over, you blame it all on me/I know I should be bitter, but baby, right now I’m bittersweet,” Beer said.
As a whole, “locket” contains many club-like hits such as “make you mine” and “yes baby,” but also uses Beer’s classic, emotional and elegant music style. This alternate side of Beer’s musicality is featured throughout the album, but especially on “nothing at all” and “you’re still everything.”
Alongside the album, Beer is going on another world tour, titled “The Locket Tour.” The tour will begin in Kraków, Poland, in May of 2026 and comes to Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway on July 12.
Madison Beer’s new album, “locket,” showcases artistic growth within Beer and her music and allows listeners to feel and share that growth through the album’s 11 tracks.
