What is your name and what sport are you captain for?

Kieran Stover, Boys Cross Country

What other activities are you involved in at school?

Indoor/Outdoor Track, Film, Mock Trial, Jazz Band, NHS,

Do you plan on continuing your sport in college?

Yes, I want to keep running competitively however that turns out. I’m not prioritizing XC when looking at schools, but I don’t want to stop training and competing.

What are some goals set for the team this coming season? How do you plan to achieve them?

We had a goal of finishing with a better record than last year’s 2-7 record, and this year we were able to bring our record up to 4-5 which is a huge accomplishment. This program was hit hard by COVID and it’s very exciting to see the program returning back to what it used to be. We also want to qualify for the All States meet. To do so, we have to come in the top 7 at the Divisional meet against all of the D3 teams in November. As long as we have our varsity squad healthy, I think we will have a good chance of placing, making this Walpole’s first appearance at All States since 2019.

What is your pre-game ritual? (Songs, pre-game meals, etc.)

I always eat pasta the night before a meet. On the day of, I make sure my nutrition is right and I like to visualize the race. I also have a pre-meet playlist that I play on the bus ride before every race to get in the zone.

If you could have one faculty member join your team, who would it be and why?

Mr. Gitkind. He ran in high school and I’d like to see what he’d be able to do in a race.

What advice do you have for underclassmen that play your sport?

Weak athletes make excuses for not being able to run fast, strong athletes just train until they can.

What meet do you look forward to this season? Why?

Weymouth. For the past 8 years Weymouth has always been a very close meet won by 1 or 2 points. We lost by 1 place (1-2 seconds) last year, so this year it will be a good fight to win over them this season.
